The funeral of William Brown Jr., a seven-year-old boy who was killed in a hit-and-run crash, will be held at St Mary and St Eanswythe Church in Folkestone, Kent, after permission was granted by the King. The funeral is scheduled to take place at 2 PM GMT. William was struck by a car while walking in Folkestone on December 6. Following the incident, a 49-year-old man from Dymchurch was arrested and has since been bailed. The investigation is still ongoing.
The monarchy has the power to allow burials at churchyards where they would not typically be permitted. A spokesperson for the Privy Council stated: “We are pleased that His Majesty The King has granted permission, on the advice of his Privy Council, to support the family in these tragic circumstances.”
Prior to permission being granted for William’s burial, his mother launched a fundraising page to cover funeral costs. Within hours, thousands of pounds were donated through the Gofundme page. Ms. Brown spoke to the BBC following the fatal accident, describing her son as “the sweetest boy in the world, so soft and gentle.”
The case remains open, with the suspect on police bail. The community has shown an outpouring of support, with condolence books and candles left to honor William at the church
