A well-known Berlin nightclub has changed its name as of January 1, 2024. The Suicide Circus club will now be known as Lokschuppen Berlin. A statement released on social media explained that the club’s previous name had led to “misunderstandings and prejudices”. The club has become known for its electronic music and the transformation of the venue at Berlin’s RAW site into a “vibrant place” since opening in 2009.
The nightclub has featured numerous notable performers on its stage over the years, but its previous name had caused issues with “prejudices”. In an announcement on Instagram, the club thanked patrons for their support and stated it was excited to begin operating under the new name. The announcement was met with positivity online as many fans of the club celebrated the change.
The club is part of a wider electronic music scene in Berlin, which has gained a reputation as a go-to destination for techno music. Berlin is home to Berghain, which is often cited as the “best nightclub in the world”. Germany’s social scene has been adversely affected in recent times though due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has resulted in numerous nightclubs having to shut their doors for long periods of time.
Lokschuppen Berlin will now be hoping that it can return with vigour following the pandemic, signalling a symbolic new era for the club and capitalising on the positive reaction to the name change. It will be a chance for the nightclub to continue to provide the music and atmosphere it has become known for, with new opportunities for growth and development in the years to come
