An 18-year-old woman passed away on New Year’s Day, after feeling unwell while at Glasgow nightclub SWG3, according to a BBC report. This marks the third fatality at the venue within just four months, with Scott Allison and Marcus Dick both dying in August at the age of 18. SWG3 has temporarily closed as a sign of respect, while Police Scotland investigates the involvement of drugs. SWG3 says staff intervened quickly after noticing the woman was struggling, taking her to the venue’s medical unit for checks, with an ambulance called as her condition deteriorated.
The episode was reported to police on Friday (January 5), with inquiries ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The club added that it had implemented “significant measures” to stop drugs getting onto the premises and that SWG3 had contacted the woman’s family to offer support.
The venue has also stated that every guest is searched upon entry by accredited security personnel, while medical teams consistently monitor major events. In response to the incident, SWG3 also announced a proactive closure of the venue over the weekend, to allow staff a chance to reconsider and re-evaluate.
SWG3 has seen two fatalities prior to this recent incident. The first incident saw two 18-year-olds passing away after attending a 10-hour outdoor rave at SWG3 in August, with the individuals in question having been part of separate groups and both dying within hours of each other.
