New Year message from Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson

Liverpool City Council Leader, Liam Robinson, has reflected on 2023 and is looking forward to the upcoming year. Robinson was elected as Leader of Liverpool City Council in May 2023 and has since made it his goal to end statutory intervention at Liverpool City Council. He aims to restore the trust in the council that was lost as a result of past mistakes.

Robinson is proud of what has been achieved in 2023. He states that Liverpool has made significant progress with a majority of Government intervention expected to end in June 2024. Departments of Finance, Highways, and Transport will be returned to Council control in March 2024.

Liverpool has also made great strides in education, with a higher proportion of good and outstanding schools in the city as compared to the past. Robinson is pleased with the delivery of £17m of retrofit improvements to support over 1,000 vulnerable residents. Additionally, Liverpool City Council has recently piloted a scheme to tackle rogue and criminal landlords operating in the city.

Robinson’s top priority is to be honest with the people of Liverpool and to be accountable for all his decisions. He acknowledges that transparency has been lacking in the past and promises to work towards remedying this. Robinson also recognizes the need for better frontline services in Liverpool and is excited about the council’s new neighborhood model designed to improve the delivery and effectiveness of their services in all communities. Robinson also aims to work towards resolving the increase in homelessness in the city and challenge the government in their lack of response to the national crisis.

Robinson is looking forward to an exciting year and is determined to deliver on Liverpool City Council’s plan for the city. He ends his piece by wishing Liverpool residents and their families a happy new year
