Liverpool City Council’s Film Office has achieved its busiest year on record, with 301 film and TV productions choosing the Liverpool City Region to shoot their stories. In 2021, the Film Office hosted 1,933 film days, supported 1,493 full-time equivalent jobs, and £43.6 million was added to the local economy.
The Liverpool City Region attracted major projects including Time 2 by BBC Studios/BBC, Sexy Beast by Paramount, and The Tower 3 by Mammoth Screen/Windhover Film/ITV. The Film Office supported 63 different Eurovision productions, including a secret pop-up performance by Sam Ryder at the Albert Dock.
The year also saw £2 million accepted from the BFI under a new skills cluster partnership with North East Screen, Screen Manchester, and Screen Yorkshire under Screen Alliance North to support 1,000 new entrants from diverse backgrounds to build a stronger and more inclusive workforce to plug the skills shortage gap.
The Depot, managed by the Film Office, welcomed its first long-term tenant with Paramount’s Sexy Beast, while Liverpool Film Office Head Lynn Saunders was awarded the Mercury Business Award which recognises outstanding business achievement in the industry. In 2024, the Film Office will celebrate its 35th anniversary with remedial work beginning on a world-class film and TV campus at the site of the former Littlewoods Building to expand the workforce across the north of England
