The xx has announced that they are currently working on a new album, seven years after the release of their last studio record, ‘I See You’. The group, composed of Romy, Jamie xx, and Oliver Sim, is said to be creating a “wide open” and “exciting” new record. Romy has revealed that the much-anticipated release is in the works, but it’s still early days. She shares that they are all keen to move the sound of the group forward and keep it fresh despite the changes people might discern.
The trio has all been working on solo projects, with Romy releasing her debut album, ‘Mid Air,’ last year. The group revealed they were back in the studio last September, taking a “necessary break” to experiment with new music. During an interview with Matt Wilkinson from Apple Music, Romy disclosed that they “have a laugh about it together,” but they still have no idea about their sonic makeup. Despite that, she reassures fans that they have “a lot of love for the sound we create with The xx.”
In recent years, Romy has been flying solo, while Jamie xx has released a DJ mix and his single, ‘Idontknow,’ finishing off the year with another single, ‘Loud Places.’ Meanwhile, Oliver Sim has collaborated with artists, including Julian Casablancas and Jehnny Beth. However, fans are excited about the three’s reunion and looks forward to another album from the popular group.
The band is known for their atmospheric and emotional sound, which has evolved through the years. It is expected that their upcoming album would showcase creativity and innovation while retaining their signature sound. With their creative juices flowing, fans are expecting a new chapter to begin in the band’s journey
