Liverpool police launch manhunt after shots fired at cinema and newsagent’s

Following reports of gunfire at the Showcase Cinemas on East Lancashire Road in Liverpool on Wednesday night, the police have launched a search for a gunman. Reports also suggest that there was another incident where a gun was fired at Sangha’s newsagents on Lower House Lane. No injuries are reported at either scene.

Police have said that the incident is not terrorist-related but are treating it as a major incident. Armed officers, along with local police, have been patrolling the area, with residents advised to remain indoors. The cinema was locked down for about 45 minutes but has since reopened.

Craig Moorhead, who was inside the cinema when the drama unfolded, told the Liverpool Echo, “As we came out of the cinema screen, the armed police response team was running in. I was talking to the girl on the desk, apparently a fella had pointed a shotgun at her. She was in shock.”

Following the incident, Showcase cinemas confirmed that no one was injured. They added, “The safety and welfare of our staff and customers is always number one priority, and we would like to thank our team members and the local police for their swift responses to this active investigation.” The incident is still under investigation.

With this ongoing investigation, local police are urging any witnesses to step forward to provide any additional information that can aid the investigation
