Milan’s Terraforma festival will not take place in 2024

Terraforma, the Milan-based festival dedicated to artistic experimentation and environmental sustainability, has announced that it will not run in 2024. Started in 2014, the festival has always taken place in the rural gardens of Villa Arconati situated ten miles away from Milan. The festival posted the news on its Instagram last week expressing “infinite gratitude for these incredible eight editions”. According to the announcement, Terraforma festival will not take place at Villa Arconati in 2024.

In the announcement, the festival quoted “change” as a “conceptual and structural standpoint” of the festival and said: “Change was there when we decided to create an experimental music festival in Italy’s heavily commercial music industry. “Change was there when we pushed—and continue to do so—a sustainability agenda that every year sets new standards for ourselves, our partners, and our guests. Change, above all, has always been inherent to Terraforma.”

Terraforma explained, “We feel, once again, ready for change. And we want our community to be part of it.” The festival encouraged its followers to stay with the festival and “embrace change.” In their annual sustainability report, Terraforma explained that its CO² had reduced by 1.5 tonnes from 2022 due to its water fountain system.

Terraforma has revealed a collaborative LP available to pre-order featuring various artists. It includes Donato Dozzy, Marco Shuttle, Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, Nkisi, STARGATE, STILL, and Suzanne Ciani. Last year’s festival line-up included Deena Abdelwahed, Hudson Mohawke, Josey Rebelle, and many more.

Terraforma has always considered itself an experimental music festival in an industry that relies heavily on commercial music. The festival has pushed to set new sustainability standards every year, which has always been inherent to their ethos. Terraforma has always aimed to inspire new dimensions of music and art. Although Terraforma will not take place in 2024, it’s not the end of the festival, as it plans to evolve and terraform new dimensions while they terraform themselves
