Liam Stych, a rescuer who saved a woman and her child from a submerged car during flooding, insists he is not a hero. The incident took place in Hall Green, Birmingham, where Mr Stych managed to secure the car to a bridge to stop it from being washed away. The West Midlands Police confirmed that Mr Stych had entered the flood water to help the pair. The car’s driver and a three-year-old child were saved.
Despite his extraordinary actions, Mr Stych described himself as a human being with good instincts. In the situation, he said he simply told the woman to take his hand and they could leave safely. She put her arms out for help, and Mr Stych was able to save both her and the child.
Mr Stych was with his partner Tia, who is five months pregnant, when they saw the car in trouble. Tia also attempted to help with the effort before Mr Stych entered the water. The car was going with the current and the situation was described as scary by Tia.
The Environment Agency has issued dozens of flood warnings and alerts for the West Midlands. This is a reminder to stay safe during times of flooding and to be aware of the danger. It’s incredible when people like Mr Stych step up in times of crisis and show us the potential for human kindness
