Bangkok closing times for nightclubs extended to 4:AM for 2024

In an effort to boost tourism, the Prime Minister of Thailand, Srettha Thavisin, announced a night-time curfew extension for Bangkok venues. The new law, which came into effect on New Year’s Eve, permits venues in Chiang Mai, Phuket, Chon Buri, and Bangkok to remain open until 4:00 AM. The extension of the curfew will be reassessed later this year, and other regions may have the option to extend opening hours.

However, there are limitations to this new law. Venues must be granted an operating license under Article 3 of the 1966 Place of Entertainment Act. Tourist Police Commander Pol Maj-Gen Adisorn Ngamjitsuksri has conveyed this information to venues. Some areas such as Thonglor and Silom will continue to close at 1:00 AM while others will close at midnight. This extension in curfew is expected to promote tourism in the area.

Previously, clubs in Bangkok had closed at 2:00 AM. Bangkok’s Interior Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, stated that the new curfew will benefit law-abiding citizens; he also mentioned that people should avoid drink-driving, carrying illegal weapons, and dealing drugs. Cooperation is expected between police and the nightlife sector. Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Anutin, whose political party led the legalisation of marijuana, believes that the curfew will require cooperation to plan between police and the nightlife sector.

This extension aims to promote nightlife in Bangkok and help the struggling tourism sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is hoped that the increased operating hours will bring in more tourists and revenue to the city, while still keeping the general public safe
