Large parts of the UK are set to experience severe weather conditions due to a series of weather warnings issued by the Met Office. On Saturday, strong gusty winds will move from west to east across England and Wales, and sleet and snow will be experienced in parts of Scotland. These warnings come on the heels of Storm Gerrit, which caused power outages and widespread disruption across the country. A yellow weather warning has been issued for rain in much of Northern Ireland until 11:00 on Saturday. A yellow warning for rain and snow has also been issued for most parts of Scotland, with up to 25mm of rain forecast at lower levels.
Northern areas of Scotland are set to receive significant snow, with up to 20cm of snow expected on the highest ground. Wales and southern and eastern parts of England have also been issued a yellow warning for gusty winds, with anticipated gusts of between 45 and 50 mph. Coastal areas in the west and south of England may receive the strongest gusts of between 65 and 75 mph. As a result, the public has been advised to prepare for delays in travel across road, rail, air, and ferry transport. Power outages are also expected.
