Police authorities have revealed that a man, Christian Marriott, who died after being hit by a car, was a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help a woman lying unconscious in the street. The incident took place in Sheffield, minutes after the police were informed of an incidence of disorder and violence at College Close, Burngreave. Mr. Marriott, a father of two, was out for a post-Christmas walk along with his wife and two young sons, aged eight and six, when he stopped to help the woman in distress.
According to South Yorkshire Police, the woman was involved in a dispute between a group of people, and as Mr. Marriott stepped in to assist her, he was hit by the car that also hit several other people. One person was left in a serious condition and then hospitalized, while others were said to have sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody. Another man, aged 55, has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Knowles, the senior investigating officer, expressed his grief over the tragic loss of a Good Samaritan who had stepped in to assist a stranger in his time of need. He added that the incident is profoundly heartbreaking, especially for Chris’ loved ones, who are now left devastated following his death. The investigators are working diligently to gather witness statements and identify people with crucial information. Increased police patrols will continue to be seen in the area, while house-to-house enquiries will be carried out.
The Good Samaritan, Mr. Marriott, leaves behind his grieving family, who are still in shock. However, the police are determined to bring justice to him and his loved ones in the aftermath of this horrible tragedy. Anyone with information is being urged to come forward to aid the investigation, while the police are also calling on the community to be vigilant and provide every detail that could assist in their efforts to bring the perpetrators of this crime to book.
