Scotland has been hit by Storm Gerrit, causing disruption to road, rail and ferry services. Tree falls on a train line caused ScotRail to experience delays near Dumbarton while West Dunbartonshire and Fort William had road closures due to floods, according to Police Scotland. Meanwhile, high winds meant that the A9 at Dornoch Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge were closed to high-sided vehicles. A series of weather warnings for rain, wind and snow are in effect across the UK until Thursday morning.

Dundee road traffic police were in attendance after a collision on the A90 near Inchture, while elsewhere in the country, travellers using the rail network were informed by ScotRail to expect delays and cancellations. Speed restrictions were implemented across the network as a result of “widespread disruption”.

CalMac warned customers of ferry services to expect disruption throughout the day, as high winds led to cancellations, while multiple areas reported power cuts. The entirety of Scotland and other areas of the UK are covered by a yellow warning for adverse weather conditions that is expected to lead to 20-45mm of rain and winds reaching 60-70mph in some areas.

Phil Campbell, director of customer operations at ScotRail, said that his company would work closely with Network Rail Scotland to keep customers moving, but that journeys would take longer than usual and could be subject to cancellations. Meanwhile, the Met Office warned that the affected areas were subject to both rain and snow warnings over the same period of time
