A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out at the London Oratory School in west London. The selective Catholic school on Seagrave Road in Fulham was attended by ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters at about 10:00 BST. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said that “an atrium is alight in a four-story building with a basement.”
At approximately 11:15, the Met Police arrested the boy, who was taken into custody. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at the school, which is nearby Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge Stadium. The cause of the fire is presently unknown and will be investigated jointly by the LFB and the Metropolitan Police.
As a precaution, a nearby shopping centre and some residential addresses were evacuated, and residents were advised to keep their windows closed. Although the fire was under control by 11:47, fire crews from Fulham, Chelsea, Kensington, Wandsworth, Hammersmith, Clapham, Lambeth, and Soho fire stations remained in attendance, according to the LFB.
The London Ambulance Service reported that no patients were treated. “We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, a medic in a fast-response car, and members of our hazardous area response team,” a spokesperson stated. “Our first medics arrived at the scene in less than three minutes.
