Liverpool Football Club has issued a statement condemning the actions of those who damaged Manchester United’s team bus prior to Sunday’s game at Anfield. As the bus approached the stadium, it was hit by a number of objects. Footage on social media appeared to show that the upper window of the bus had been smashed by a glass bottle.
“We are aware of footage of the incident circulating online and are working with Merseyside Police to fully investigate and identify those responsible,” the statement said. “Any individuals found guilty of this reprehensible behaviour will also face the full force of the club’s sanction process.”
This is the second time that a visiting team’s bus has been damaged on its way to Anfield. In October 2022, Manchester City’s bus was damaged when objects were thrown at it on Anfield Road. Liverpool’s own team bus was also damaged after the Premier League game against City at the Etihad Stadium earlier this year.
Sunday’s match against Manchester United ended in a 0-0 draw. Liverpool remain joint top of the Premier League table alongside Chelsea. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, now in eighth place, have five points fewer than Liverpool and Chelsea.
Liverpool are due to play Porto in a Champions League group stage game on Wednesday, while Manchester United, who have already qualified for the knockout stages are playing away against Red Bull Salzburg
