Ilkeston: Man who died after group hit by van named by police

Derbyshire Constabulary has named Samuel Wilson as the man who was killed when a van struck a group of people in Ilkeston town centre. Mr. Wilson and two other men were hit on Market Place around 2:10 am on Saturday, January 16. The other men were taken to hospital and have been discharged. However, despite attempts to save him, the 26-year-old Mr. Wilson died at the scene. A 27-year-old man remained in police custody on suspicion of murder. 
 
A representative revealed that a “large scene” was in place throughout Saturday on Market Place, but the area was reopened yesterday evening. Police patrols are continuing in the area, and they are encouraging anyone who may have any concerns to speak to the officers. 
 
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Croome, who is leading the investigations, thanked all those who have come forward and spoken to them. However, he also said that officers still wanted to hear from anyone who might have witnessed or have any information about reports of an altercation at The Market Inn shortly before the incident. 
 
“There is a team of officers working to establish the events of that night, which has included viewing CCTV footage from around the Market Place that night. Any information one has could be vital to our investigation,” said the detective
