Sara Sharif: Father, step-mother and uncle deny girl's murder

Three family members have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Sara Sharif, a 10-year-old girl found dead in her home in Surrey on August 10th. The defendants all lived with Sara before her death and appeared via video link at the Old Bailey to enter their pleas. Mr Sharif, Ms Batool, and Mr Malik left the country for Islamabad shortly before the discovery of Sara’s body and were charged with murder upon their return in September.

Believed to be living in the UK with her father and stepmother, Sara’s death sparked a nationwide outpouring of grief. Her body was discovered at her home in Woking, and a High Court judge has set a trial date for September. Mr Sharif and Mr Malik appeared by video link from Belmarsh Prison, while Ms Batool appeared from Bronzefield Prison. The BBC Southeast has a Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram presence.
