Jon Venables, one of the killers of James Bulger, has had his bid for parole rejected by authorities after they deemed he still poses a risk to children. The Parole Board issued a report stating that Venables’ release “would not be safe for the public”. The report further stated that Venables could potentially be a repeated offender in the future, explaining that he had “accepted that he had a long-term sexual interest in children/indecent images of children” despite some work being done by him to address these issues while in prison.
The report highlighted several other concerns inspectors had with Venables, including his past history of drug use and his constant attempts to go online against the conditions of his parole. The panel that reviewed his case said Venables presented a “future risk” of being involved in more incidents of child abuse or of getting close to children with the intent of abusing them.
