Northern Ireland’s biggest car dealership, Charles Hurst, has announced that about 100 of their staff face redundancy. The dealership has eight sites across Northern Ireland and currently employs close to 900 staff. The job cuts were announced internally on Tuesday, and some sales staff and business managers may be affected. The notice periods will depend on the length of service and the role of each colleague at risk.
This announcement comes after Charles Hurst’s parent company, Lookers, was taken private by the Global Auto Holdings, their new owner. Last week, Lookers confirmed that some corporate and support roles relating to their status as a listed company may also be affected.
A spokesperson for Lookers said that the cuts came after a detailed review of their business which aimed to keep the business efficient and maintain a manageable cost base. “Unfortunately, a number of roles have been identified across our operations that are now at risk of redundancy,” they said.
