A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of 24-year-old Jack Edwards in Nottingham. Edwards suffered serious head injuries near Sussex Street Skate Park on Tuesday and passed away on Thursday. The teenage suspect is also being charged with robbery and is due to appear at youth court on Monday, however, his name cannot be released due to his age. Kai Howitt, 18, from West Bridgford, has already been charged with the same offences and is expected to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on the same day.
Police mentioned that a 16-year-old girl has also been charged with robbery in relation to the same attack and will attend youth court at the same time. As a result of the attack, the skate park was closed on Tuesday evening, on the request from authorities, to facilitate investigations. This appalling incident has raised concerns about knife crime in the area, as the victim appeared to have been assaulted with a knife.
Nottinghamshire Police has been called to address the increased level of violence in the city amid worries that the area’s violent crime rate has reached an all-time high. During the current year, there have already been more than 14 deaths in the town, believed to have been linked to organised crime, making it one of the deadliest areas in the country.
