Black Techno Matters, a record label based in Washington D.C., has announced that it will be releasing a limited edition run of 64GB USB drives for its second compilation called ‘F_X_M_X_L_Y v2’ at the beginning of 2024. The compilation consists of 130 songs from 16 artists and is over 17 hours long. In addition to offering extensive music archives, archive flyers, and video footage from previous Black Techno Matters events, the USB drive also offers two DJ mixes and three sample packs. The label also hints at more surprises on the drive through its Bandcamp.
Artists featured in the compilation include Adam 2, Blvksite, B_X_R_N_X_R_D, FUTURE DRUM CIRCLE, Jamal Dixon, Kotic Couture, MerlinBerlin, Outputmessage, Smoke & Tea, and Trovarsi. Each artist had complete freedom to choose and add anything they wanted to their individual USB folder, ranging from live modular sets, sample packs, and fully-fledged EPs to unreleased and archive material.
Only 100 copies of the ‘F_X_M_X_L_Y v2’ USB will be available, and they are available for pre-order now, with shipping starting on January 12, 2024. The compilation will also be available digitally on Bandcamp on the same date. Black Techno Matters is a collective founded by Bernard Farley, AKA B_X_R_N_X_R_D, in 2019, with a mission to “reclaim techno as a manifestation of Black expression in a society that has oppressed it by creating spaces, both virtual and IRL, that celebrate the Black roots of techno.”
The organization is made up of Marshall Stukes, the technology lead who runs Black Techno Matters Radio, and Justin Barini-Rivers AKA Blvksite, who helps run the label, including mastering tracks for the new compilation and educating children on music production. The USB drive is an ‘instant level up’ for any DJ’s collection and showcases Black Techno Matters’ unique take on techno expression, rooted in Black culture.
Pre-orders for the Black Techno Matters F_X_M_X_L_Y v2 USB are available through the Bandcamp website
