North-East based Magic Ritmo imprint launches, debuts with EP reissue of Adel Dhibi’s ‘M’Hajer’ album

The North East has welcomed a new record label, Magic Ritmo, which has introduced its inaugural release. The label is launching the re-release of Adel Dhibi’s “M’Hajer” album on vinyl for the first time in a curated EP. Before this release, the album was only accessible on CD and cassette. Adel Dhibi recorded the album in Belgium. The limited run of 100 12-inch copies of the record has been pressed by the local Middlesbrough-based pressing plant, Press On Vinyl, emphasizing Magic Ritmo’s support for local establishments.

The album opens up with the track “Tensi” which captures the listener’s attention with its strings and synths. The bated instrumental builds up anticipation before the release of euphoric breaks, arpeggiators, and echoing Arabic vocals. The pace picks up in the album’s following track on the B-side, ‘Fadha’, with psychedelic sounds that give off an energy driving towards bursting percussion and early-Goa soundscapes. The album departs from its high tempo energy on its last track, “Sabrin.” It takes a turn towards low-energy tempo with pummeling bassline and flooded with spaced-out electronics. Magic Ritmo believes that the careful curation of these three tracks both epitomizes the artist’s interlacing of varied electronic genres inspired by his Tunisian heritage.

The Magic Ritmo founders, Rees, and Lewis Wilson, explain that the record label, store, and party series are dedicated to exploring the shared consciousness and curiosity for music and parallel culture. They aim at deep-diving into archival sounds and future hits with a firm nod to our collective inspiration. They expect swampy electronics, organic tones, and a healthy dose of hedonism to keep the crowd moving through their releases and re-releases.

Music enthusiasts and fans of Adel Dhibi’s “M’Hajer” album can now buy the Magic Ritmo curated EP on Bandcamp. The fans have been waiting for the release to enjoy Adel Dhibi’s sound – an interlacing of various electronic genres with sounds that embody his Tunisian heritage, and his goal to create a more peaceful world through sound.
