Kelela is preparing to release a remix package next spring, ‘RAVE:N, The Remixes,’ featuring reworked tracks from her critically acclaimed second studio record, ‘Raven.’ Set to arrive on February 9, 2024, via Warp Records, the remix package includes a variety of artists such as Yaeji, DJ Swisha, Karen Nyame KG, LSDXOXO, DJ Manny, TAYHANA, and Loraine James. The album also features new vocals from several renowned singers and rappers.
TYGAPAW’s retouch of the album’s title track, ‘Raven,’ is expected to feature Toronto-based singer Rochelle Jordan, while a reinterpretation of ‘Holier’ by JD. REID will come with a surprise performance by UK chart-topper Shygirl. Bbymutha, ThugPop, and Ms. Carrie Stacks also contribute features.
To coincide with the launch of the remix album, the lead single from ‘Closure,’ remixed by Flexulant and BAMBII, featuring Rahrah Gabor and Brazy, is now available.
‘Raven,’ Kelela’s second studio album, features an emphasis on club-centered sounds and celebrates Black and queer artists. The album was produced mostly in Berlin, with collaborators including German duo OCA, Maroof, LSDXOXO, and BAMBII.
Kelela explained during an interview with Mixmag after the album’s release, “There is no range of sounds I could write or offer that group of people, for the most part, that would not be received and understood.” She believes her music can be a gateway for listeners to experience new musical genres, or to realize a connection between seemingly unrelated styles.
