Lurgan murder: Odhrán Kelly killing not linked to organised crime

Police have said that the murder of a young man in County Armagh is not connected to organised crime. Odhrán Kelly, who was 23 years old, was found dead beside a burning car in Maple Court in Lurgan on Saturday morning. The victim’s mother, Jacqui Murray, stated that her son was taken from her too soon and that her heart was “broken in a million pieces”. Murray described him as her “beautiful boy” in a floral tribute and added, “Love you always, Mum and big brother Paul.”

A section of the surrounding area, which included a block of flats as well as a nearby green space where a burnt-out vehicle was discovered, continues to be cordoned off. Police officers and forensic teams have been at the scene since Sunday. Det Ch Insp Tony Kelly expressed his thoughts for the victim’s family but stated that he did not think there was a link to organised crime.

Detectives have requested that three individuals, caught on CCTV close to the site of the burning car, come forward as they may have details that can assist the investigation. Two women, aged 36 and 43, and a 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday are still being held by police.

Colleagues of Mr Kelly from Craigavon Area Hospital, where he worked in the domestic unit, recently visited the location. They left a balloon with “Forever 23” written upon it attached to a nearby lamppost. Sammi Jo Lewsley described feeling “devastated” and being left with memories of having fun and playing around with her lost friend. Mr. Kelly’s work colleagues say they are “heartbroken” about his death, and Jodie Tallon described him as a person who always had a kind word for everyone.

Det Ch Insp Kelly is seeking footage circulating on social media to help with the investigation. Anyone with video of the incident is urged to upload it to the Major Incident Public Portal
