Claudia Winkleman quits BBC Radio 2 show

Claudia Winkelman has announced her departure from her Saturday mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2 next year. The Strictly Come Dancing host shared her decision with her listeners, expressing how much she loved being on the show and calling it “an absolute privilege”. Winkleman cited her desire to spend more time with her daughter, who is preparing to leave home, as the reason for her decision to leave the show.

During her announcement, she expressed her apologies to the listeners for what she called “such a boring cliché”, nevertheless, she added that time was moving too fast for her, and her daughter, who was three years old a moment ago, still had a need for her mother’s presence. Claudia Winkelman’s replacement will be actor and comedian, Romesh Ranganathan, who debuts in his first show in April after Winkelman steps down in March.

Winkelmann has hosted the Saturday show for the past three years and described Ranganathan, her successor, as one of the “funniest and smartest people on earth”. Dating back to an incident in 2014, Winkelman’s decision to step back from the show has been fuelled by the desire to spend more time with her daughter. Announcing her departure live on air, Winkelman stated that she wanted to be home more with her daughter and added that her youngest child required her more. Claudia Winkelman is expected to be missed by her listeners as she had a significant following during her time on the show
