An inquest into the deaths of four teenagers who drowned after their car overturned on a camping trip in north Wales has opened. The boys, aged 16, 17, 17, and 18 were found in submerged car in Gwynedd. The teenagers, who were from the Shrewsbury area, failed to return home and a search was launched. Post-mortem examinations showed the provisional cause of death to be drowning. The police investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
The four boys were travelling along the A4085 when their car left the road, leading to their deaths. The car was understood to have come off the road in Garreg, near Tremadog. Supt Owain Llewellyn confirmed that the crash was “a tragic accident”.
In a brief hearing, the coroner for north-west Wales offered her condolences to the families of the four boys, who were not in attendance. She said that a full inquest would only take place after the police investigation is complete.
Tributes to the boys have been shared by their families and friends. In a tribute to her son, Harvey’s mother Crystal Owen described him as “a unique and special person who touched so many people along the way”.
