Skepta has announced the launch of his own festival, named Big Smoke Festival, in collaboration with Festival Republic. The one-day event will be held at Crystal Palace Park in London, featuring two stages curated by Skepta himself. The show will take place on July 6, 2024, and tickets will be available for purchase starting December 1, 2023.
On one stage, Skepta and his dance music label, Más Tiempo, will present a special b2b DJ set between co-founders Skepta and Jammer. The other stage will feature Skepta’s return to performing live after a brief hiatus, which will be the only opportunity to watch him rap live in the UK in 2024. The festival will also feature a full lineup with big names, all hand-picked by Skepta himself.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Skepta expressed his excitement, thanking his supporters for being patient while he took a break. He explained that the new festival would provide a platform for him to showcase his music and put the energy he had saved into something that was for his fans, by his fans.
When discussing the event with Mixmag, Skepta stated that Big Smoke Festival will bring the energy and essence of London alive for a day. “I wanted to do something that was going to look and feel like the essence of London. That’s what Big Smoke Festival is going to do.” Skepta also revealed that he might join one stage, fly over to the other one, and link with Jammer, which he considers “gonna be crazy.”
