Rob Reiner, who directed the 1984 classic music mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, has announced that a sequel is in the works. This news has been revealed on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast. The sequel, set to feature Paul McCartney, Elton John, Garth Brooks, and the original cast, will start production at the end of February.

This Is Spinal Tap is a mockumentary that follows the struggles of a band through their highs and lows. Upon the movie’s first preview in a theatre in Dallas, Texas, the audiences were confused about why the film featured a band no one had ever heard of. Reiner said that they suggested that the movie should have featured the Rolling Stones or the Beatles instead.

In an interview with NME last year, Reiner stated that the sequel had not been originally on their minds, but they came up with an interesting idea and wanted to try it out. The sequel was initially expected to release in March 2024 for the original’s 40th anniversary, but it seems it might have a different release date since production begins in February.

No release date for the movie has been shared yet. The anticipation for this sequel is high, and fans will wait eagerly to see the return of their beloved cast and how This Is Spinal Tap has evolved over the years.
