The Prodigy have reportedly changed the lyrics to ‘Smack My Bitch Up’

British electronic music group The Prodigy has revised the lyrics of their track “Smack My Bitch Up,” which had been criticized by some for promoting domestic violence. The song was released in 1997 as part of the album “The Fat of the Land” and has over 100 million streams on Spotify. The track had been voted as the most controversial song of all time in a poll conducted by the Performing Rights Society in 2012. Despite the group’s popularity when released, they have been accused of glamorizing domestic violence through its lyrics.

In recent live performances, the now-lead singer Maxim has introduced a new chorus change to the controversial track, replacing “Smack My Bitch Up” with “Change My Pitch Up.” But the group has yet to make an official announcement regarding its decision to revise the song’s lyrics. However, according to an earlier interview with Sky News, the lyrics were intended to mean “doing anything intensely,” and the group has opposed claims that it promoted domestic violence.

Earlier this year, The Prodigy released rare demos, hidden works and live recordings from their past, which had never been heard before. The music was made available through soundcloud, Vimeo, Youtube, and other digital sites. The initiative was designed to provide their fans with live-only tracks, rare studio works, side projects, samples, promo and unusual releases, as well as unreleased and unheard music.

The Prodigy is presently on tour across Europe, and tickets for the remaining tour dates are available through various ticketing platforms. Based in the UK, the electronic group has managed to blend different styles of music such as punk, techno, and industrial dance. Their work has been considered influential, and they have paved the way for other electronic music genres globally
