Evington Road: Attempted murder arrest after double shooting

Leicestershire Police have arrested a 29-year-old man from Leicester on suspicion of attempted murder following a double shooting in Leicester. The shooting took place at around 11:20 pm on Wednesday when two men were shot while walking along Evington Road. One of the victims remains in the hospital in a serious condition, while the other is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police. The suspect was taken into custody in Birmingham and is currently being questioned by authorities.

The police are encouraging three potential witnesses, who are not believed to be involved, to come forward. Two people were standing on the corner of Evington Road and Chepstow Road when the shots were fired and later ran into a nearby shop, the authorities said. They are also seeking to speak to the driver of a white car that reportedly passed by the area at the time of the incident, thought to be an Audi.

The police have not disclosed any further details about the shooting, while the investigation is still ongoing. Leicestershire Police urged anyone with information to contact them or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The incident has shocked the local community, and any form of gun violence is unacceptable, said a local resident. Safety measures must be taken to ensure that such incidents never occur again, they added. Earlier this year, a teenager was shot in a different incident in the same area. The authorities have intensified their efforts to combat gun violence in the region and urged the public to come forward with any information regarding any such incidents
