London-based DJ and artist Call Super, whose real name is Joe Seaton, has announced their first solo art exhibition called “Tell Me I Didn’t Choose This”. The exhibition, to be held at St Mary’s Church on Bourne Street in London, will showcase the artist’s paintings and open to the public between November 27 and December 1. Seaton said that the exhibition was a “physical space for self-interrogation” and described its large body of work as a way to dive into the topic of self-reflection.
Seaton’s album “Eulo Cramps” inspired much of the artwork showcased in the exhibition. Released in 2019, the album was a “river of reflections on selfhood, light, the present, what we call loss and what we call growth.” “Tell Me I Didn’t Choose This” includes several themes present throughout Seaton’s artistic pursuits, including poems, autobiographical writing, and paintings.
Seaton’s creative vision comes as no surprise, given their success as a DJ and producer. Call Super has grown in popularity since their debut in 2011, now recognised globally for their unique and innovative sound, which often incorporates a blend of house and techno.
The exhibition is free to the public, and Seaton says that the exhibition provides a venue for visitors to delve into the topic of self-reflection, prompting them to explore aspects of themselves and their past. Call Super’s “Tell Me I Didn’t Choose This” is a thought-provoking exhibition worth experiencing first-hand
