Nines, the MOBO-award-winning British rapper whose real name is Courtney Freckleton, was arrested last week at Heathrow Airport and charged with drug offences, Sky News reports. He was charged with being involved in the supply of cannabis and the possession of the drug, as well as breaching a serious crime prevention order. Freckleton was released on bail after appearing in court following his arrest on 15 December.
According to court documents, the rapper was alleged to have held back information on his home address and possessed a second phone and laptop that he had not registered with police. The Metropolitan Police has stated that Freckleton will appear at Kingston Crown Court on 15 December for trial.
This is not the first time that Nines has faced such charges. In 2020, he was charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, among other drug offence charges. In 2018, he admitted being part of a plot to import 28kg of cannabis into the UK.
Last month, Nines released “Crop Circle 3”, his second studio album of the year which peaked at second place on the UK charts. The album received critical acclaim across the UK for its “stoner comedy” vibe. Nines has hinted that this could be his last music project, stating he is “getting old for rapping” after he releases “Crop Circle 2”.
