Privilege, one of Ibiza’s superclubs, is set to receive more than €8 million in government funding to renovate and improve the club’s facilities, according to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera. Privilege is among five tourist establishments, including hotels and apartment blocks across San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa, to receive funding for restoration work in Ibiza.
The funding, which will go towards renovating the club’s water system and solar energy power, aims to revive the 10,000-capacity venue. The Minister of Tourism Planning, Mariano Juan, said the aim was to encourage private investment to modernise and make tourist establishments more sustainable, without expanding the number of tourist places.
Privilege has been closed since 2019 and was acquired by Bahía de San Antonio S.A, owned by Grupo Empresas Matutes, in 2022 when the majority ownership was sold. The superclub was granted permission to expand by 15% in 2020 under new COVID regulations, but this was only possible if its height and capacity remained the same.
Privilege, originally known as Ku Club, has held the Guinness Book of World Records title for the world’s largest nightclub since the mid-90s. It remains unclear when the superclub will reopen, but news of its restoration indicates a hopeful return in the near future.
In total, the five establishments will receive a total of €23 million, and €8.2 million will be put into Privilege’s renovation. The funding will enable the club to modernize and make it more sustainable, without increasing the number of tourist places
