Four teenagers from Shrewsbury have been found dead in an overturned car partially submerged in water after a two-day search. Wilf Henderson, Jevon Hirst, Harvey Owen, and Hugo Morris were reported missing on Sunday morning. They were last seen in a silver Ford Fiesta before the car was found upside down in water on Tuesday afternoon. According to Superintendent Owain Llewellyn, it appears to have been a tragic accident.
It is believed that the group traveled to Harlech on Saturday with plans to camp in Eryri. They were doing their A-Levels and were students at Shrewsbury College. The team responsible for the search involved various agencies and volunteers. A member of the public contacted the police on the morning of the discovery to report a vehicle that had left the road between Beddgelert and Llanfrothen.
The force has informed the teenagers’ families and is still investigating to identify the victims and understand what led to their deaths. Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team and a coastguard helicopter from Caernarfon had combed the area around Porthmadog without positive results. The Welsh Ambulance Service was called to reports of an incident near the A4085 between Nantmor and Tan-Lan at 10:08 GMT on Tuesday.
The tragedy has left many deeply saddened, and victims’ families are receiving support. Tributes have poured in from the public, describing the teenagers as respectful, ambitious, and full of promise.
