Two police officers injured in Birmingham attack

A man has been taken into police custody on suspicion of wounding after two police officers were injured during an attack. The incident occurred when officers were attending a residential property in Yardley Wood Road in the Springfield area of Birmingham at approximately 3:30 pm GMT. West Midlands Police officers who were injured during the attack were discharged shortly after from the hospital.

A spokesperson for the force has stated that the alleged perpetrator is in his fifties and is still under police custody whilst further investigations are continuing. Police officers were offered support after the upsetting incident which was considered unacceptable. The spokesperson also stated how officers do not deserve to be assaulted whilst working to protect the community’s safety.

Events of this nature demonstrate the hazards that police officers can be exposed to on a day-to-day basis whilst protecting the public. Assaults on police officers can lead to injury, which is unacceptable, and further support must be made available to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
