Caleb, a child from Cardiff, underwent brain surgery to combat epilepsy, which caused up to 60 seizures a day. There was initial success as the number of seizures reduced to around 10 days following the operation in the United States in January 2022. Subsequently, the number of seizures has risen again to around 8 to 10 a night.

The parents, Stewart McCarthy and Kirsty Rosser, revealed that their surgeon has advised them that a second brain operation may further contribute to Caleb’s health situation. Kirsty udated BBC Radio Wales Breakfast mentioning that after the surgery in the US, they regained a sense of normalcy but his health has suffered since then.

Caleb was first diagnosed with epilepsy when he was three. The child had to undergo “months and months” of scans and monitoring by the NHS whereby medications didn’t work. His mother mentioned that they were constantly going to the hospital and spending more time there than outside.

Specialists from the UK could not aid him further hence why Caleb’s parents visited the US for aid. Stewart said that “Caleb’s seizures were arising from the left frontal lobe of his brain. This enabled them to remove most of the bad area.” Caleb was doing well for around six months, only having seizures every 10 days in comparison to multiple nightly previously. Despite this, they have since risen to 10 a night making it difficult for Caleb to live a normal life.

Currently, his parents, along with several supporters, have gathered over £14,000 to support the £120,000 costs for a second operation in the US. They were grateful for the support and love they have received so far
