After a 17-year hiatus, André 3000 has announced the impending release of his first-ever solo album, New Blue Sun, composed entirely of eight new solo flute tracks. The rapper has abandoned his previously well-beloved genre, taking a bold, unprecedented step in a totally different direction in his latest creative venture. The latest album release is set to be released on November 17th and features tracks with comically lengthy titles such as “The Slang Word P(*)ssy Rolls Off the Tongue With Far Better Ease Than the Proper Word Vagina. Do You Agree?” and “I Swear, I Really Wanted to Make a “Rap” Album but This Is Literally the Way the Wind Blew Me This Time.”
The album contains no backing tracks or rap verses and primarily consists of the Contrabass flute, Mayan flutes, bamboo flutes, and digital wind instruments, as per NPR. Although unconventional, the album hasn’t gone unnoticed by other music personalities. US rapper Lupe Fiasco had a funny take on André’s album, announcing via Twitter that he would “rap all over” the album and “put it in the time capsule for future generations.”
New Blue Sun is long overdue for fans who have been eagerly waiting for the return of one of the greatest artists of our time, even though the latest offering might come as a surprise to some of the traditional André fans. For a rapper who has sold over 25 million records as part of the legendary duo Outkast, André revealed considerable bravery in abandoning his signature sound in favour of a new journey.
The solo flute album is sure to provide an unprecedented experience and an entirely different side to André that probably wasn’t anticipated before. You can pre-order ‘New Blue Sun’ on the artist’s official website and other digital platforms
