A new version of Ableton’s well-known digital audio workstation, Live, has been announced. The 12th version, Live 12, promises to offer music makers endless possibilities. While the application previously demonstrated a Session view and Arrangement view, the latest version will be improved, especially in the latter case. By integrating the mixer into the Arrangement view of Live 12, users can reduce the amount of time spent switching between screens.
In addition to that, Ableton has updated its search feature through the use of tags to make it easier to locate instruments, such as those with a bright or dark tone, or acoustic or analog character, to aid the creative process of music production. Users can even add their own tags. Ableton has developed a new synthesis function for Live 12, alongside adding other tools like a MIDI generator that allows the creation of melodies, rhythms and chords with the help of instructive limits.
Users will be happy to know that Ableton has also added Roar, a colour and saturation device. Roar allows producers to saturate their sound to certain degrees for serial, parallel, mid/side, and multiband adapted configurations. A built-in compressor and feedback routing provide even more choices to change sounds as best suits the user’s style.
The new Live 12 version is available for purchase, but in early 2024. Prices of Live 12 for new customers are set at £69, £259 and £539, for the Intro, Standard, and Suite versions respectively. Ableton offers the opportunity to purchase the previous installment, Live 11, with a 20% discount and a free upgrade to Live 12 upon release. Additionally, previous customers will get special upgrade prices for Live 12. With Live 12, music creators are promised they’ll never run out of ways to explore their creativity and make the most out of every beat
