Artists, musicians, and performers have come together to sign an open letter calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the bombardment of Palestine. The #MusicForACeasefire letter was launched by Jeremy Corbyn’s Peace and Justice project and over 300 artists have signed it so far. The signees include The Blessed Madonna, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Martyn Ware, Melé, and Midland. Other artists that have signed the letter are Becky Hill, Ghetts, Idles, Paloma Faith, and Primal Scream.
The letter is calling for political leaders in the UK and US to condemn the collective punishment of Palestinian people. It cites the United Nations secretary general António Guterres, who said Gaza has become “a graveyard for children.” The level of death and suffering endured by over two million civilians caught up in this conflict is “hard to fathom,” according to the World Health Organisation.
The group of artists, musicians, and performers are asking for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian aid into the area for the civilians trapped amongst the rubble. They want a “meaningful diplomatic intervention” from political leaders to facilitate the release of hostages, an end to the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine, and a lasting peace in the region.
The Peace and Justice project was founded by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in 2021; it supports local, national, and international campaigns, connecting people and organisations through events and discussions on vital issues. Its patrons include Yanis Varoufakis, Alicia Castro, Noam Chomsky, Chantal Mouffe, Evo Morales, Ronnie Kasrils, Daniele Obono, and Lowkey. If you’re an artist, musician, or performer and would like to add your name to the list, you can email the project
