New York City celebrates “Wu-Tang Clan Day”

November 9 marked the first-ever Wu-Tang Clan Day, celebrated in New York City to coincide with the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”. The date was announced by mayor Eric Adams. In honor of Wu-Tang Clan Day, the Empire State Building was lit up in the group’s signature black and yellow.

Leading up to the event, Gramercy Theatre in East Village held a Wu-Tang Clan pop-up shop. Legacy Records also released a special vinyl edition of the album, “Enter the Wu-Tang,” which includes a pack of album-themed trading cards, a book of notes on the LP, and photos and interviews with key member RZA.

Last month, Wu-Tang Clan released their first single in six years, “Claudine,” which features verses from Method Man and Ghostface Killah, as well as a collaboration with Dutch singer Nicole Bus. Produced by long-time collaborator DJ Mathematics, the track is based on the 1974 Harlem-based film “Claudine,” exploring themes of heartbreak and love in its lyrics.
