A52: Roads closed following 'serious police incident'

Serious police incident results in the closure of the A52 with parts of Nottinghamshire shut down by officers. The A52 has been closed for 13.6 miles between the A46 in Saxondale and the A1 in Grantham following the incident. Nottinghamshire Police have indicated that the A52 bypass at Bingham, between Grantham Road and Tithby Road, will remain closed for some time. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has taken over the matter, though no comment has been made by the IOPC as yet.

The spokesperson for Leicestershire Police confirmed that they have also been made aware of the incident and are in contact with the IOPC. Traffic is being diverted through Bingham town centre while the closures are in place, with National Highways indicating that the A52 will remain closed until at least mid-afternoon. BBC Radio Nottingham reporter Steve Beech disclosed that residents in the area had seen blue flashing police lights overnight and woke up to the road being closed. However, they had little information about the incident.
