Life lessons: Charlotte Church on what life has taught her

Charlotte Church, the Welsh soprano singer who became a singing sensation at the age of 11 after singing “Pie Jesu” over the phone on This Morning, has shared her life philosophy with Positive News. Church, who has three children and lives in Wales, has sold over 10 million albums, trained as a sound healing therapist, founded a free learning community in south Wales and recently opened The Dreaming, a wellness retreat. In an interview with Positive News, Church discussed her new morning ritual, her sources of joy, what makes her angry, and much more.

According to Church, her morning ritual fluctuates depending on the season. During autumn and winter, she wakes up early at around six and engages in activities such as swimming, journaling, and dancing in the garden. However, in spring and summer, she doesn’t wake up early as the changing of the night to day happens very early in summer. Church expressed optimism about the ability of humans and nature to create a utopian world that feels abundant and joyful. However, she expressed disappointment with the current state of British politics, particularly the way institutions like the NHS and education are being undermined.

One of Church’s habits that have served her best in life is kindness. She believes being kind to others is the greatest gift one can offer. The Welsh singer is also passionate about crafting, which brings her a lot of joy. However, when things get tough, Church spends time in nature. Church encouraged everyone to read two books, Breath by James Nestor, which explains the importance of breath and ways to improve it, and Hold on to Your Kids by Gabor Maté, which is excellent for parents.

Church concluded by sharing her life philosophy that the best way to thrive in life is by embracing change, the only constant in life. By surrendering to this idea, all our neuroses, fears, and anxieties become less important, leading to a more joyous and fulfilling life
