Riot police called out as gang of youths start fires in Dundee

Police were deployed to the Kirkton district in Dundee after receiving reports of a group of around 50 youths setting fire to wheelie bins and smashing up an empty house. The incident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. Riot police were called to the scene to disperse the group of disorderly individuals.

Beauly Square and Beauly Avenue, the specific areas where the disturbances took place, also saw a night of riots on October 31, 2021. Last year, bonfires blocked roads in that area of the city. John Alexander, leader of Dundee City Council, expressed his frustration with the latest incident on Facebook. Councillor Alexander stated that he was “incredibly angry” about the events and referred to those that were involved as “morons.” He went on to thank the group of approximately 50 individuals who caused “huge concern and worry” in the community and cost taxpayers tens of thousands of pounds.

The police were able to disperse the group of young people without making any arrests. The incident is not believed to have resulted in any injuries. Furthermore, there was no significant damage to property other than the empty house that was vandalized. Police are investigating the incident, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.

The actions of these lawless young people have created another problem for local authorities in the form of unnecessary expenses and deteriorated peace within the community. An investigation by officials is necessary to identify and discipline the individuals responsible for the recent unrest
