On Monday evening, the families of the victims who lost loved ones in the Greysteel loyalist gun attack on a bar attended a Mass to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the tragedy. The attack occurred in the County Londonderry area in 1993, and saw the Ulster Defence Association (UDA) gun down seven individuals. Another individual died later from their injuries, and many more were wounded.
One of the gunmen had shouted the phrase “Trick or Treat” prior to opening fire. Eight people ultimately lost their lives in the attack; John Burns, Moira Duddy, Joe McDermott, Victor Montgomery, James Moore, John Moyne, Stephen Mullan, and Karen Thompson.
The service was held in the Star of the Sea church, where some of the victims’ funerals had been previously held. A cross-community service was also held after the Mass at the memorial outside the pub to remember those who died.
