The family of Lianne Sharabi, a British-Israeli woman who was tragically killed alongside her two teenage daughters by Hamas militants, has spoken publicly about their loss. Lianne, her 13-year-old daughter Yahel, and her 16-year-old daughter Noiya were found together in a position that indicated Lianne had been trying to shield her children from the attack at their home in Kibbutz Be’eri, Israel. The family had moved to the area several years earlier and were well-known and well-liked members of the community.
Lianne’s parents, Gill and Pete Brisley, appeared in an interview with the BBC describing their daughter as a “devoted mother” who had tried to protect her children to the very end. They shared fond memories of their granddaughter’s unique and individual personalities, with Yahel being energetic and passionate about the natural world, and Noiya having a quiet compassion for others and a desire to pursue a career in social work.
The Brisleys also spoke of the horror and sadness they felt upon learning of the tragedy that had befallen their family. They had first seen news of the attack on television and had been unable to reach Lianne to confirm her safety. Eventually, they learned that she and their beloved grandchildren had all been killed by the militants.
While they mourn and grieve for the loss of Lianne, Yahel, and Noiya, the Brisleys also feel grateful for the many happy memories they shared as a family. They remembered spending holidays together, with the whole extended family gathering to celebrate Yahel’s bat mitzvah just a few months before their deaths. Despite the tragedy that has befallen their loved ones, the Brisleys hope to find a way to move forward and remember them with love.
The funeral for Lianne, Yahel, and Noiya was well-attended by friends, family, and members of the community, who have all expressed their grief and sadness at the loss of such wonderful individuals. The Brisleys express their heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of support from those who knew and loved Lianne, Yahel, and Noiya
