Another instance of Tim Westwood, former BBC Radio 1 DJ, being interviewed under caution by the Metropolitan Police for alleged non-recent sexual offences has emerged. According to sources, this marks the fourth time the DJ has been interrogated by the authorities. The claims against him reportedly relate to allegations of misconduct committed between 1982 and 2016. It must be reiterated that no arrests have been made yet.
Westwood’s situation came to light after investigations undertaken by BBC News and The Guardian disclosed that up to 18 different women had accused the DJ of severe sexual offences and misconduct. They alleged that his behaviour was inappropriate and predatory in the extreme, with some claiming that he used his authority and industry position to take advantage of them. A few of the women stated that they interacted with the DJ when they were below the age of 18, with one reporting that he had sex with her when she was only 14.
Westwood has vigorously denied these charges, claiming that all of the allegations levelled against him are false. Additionally, the DJ has been performing at concerts across the country, despite some people calling for establishments not to allow him to play since he has been accused of such egregious behaviour. In a recent social media video, the DJ claimed that he is entirely innocent and is prepared to prove it just as soon as he has the opportunity.
An outside report commissioned by the BBC and examining Mr Westwood’s conduct during his nearly two-decade-long employment with the broadcaster is expected to be issued this year. BBC News has attempted to communicate with the DJ for comment, with no response yet.
