Partisan Records is to release a deluxe tenth anniversary edition of DJ Rashad’s Double Cup album, celebrating ten years since the groundbreaking release. DJ Rashad’s out-of-print CD tune, ‘Last Winter’ is now available in digital form, and is included within this reissue. The album, originally published on Hyperdub, is coming out via Partisan Records, closely followed by a limited edition gold vinyl release. The release is also accompanied by new artwork from Ashes57, which offers footage of the late producer and DJ, who was a long-time friend and collaborator.

DJ Rashad’s legacy is being celebrated by Partisan Records, marking the milestone anniversary of the influential and innovative album ‘Double Cup’, set for 8th December. Rashad’s foundation album for footwork helped propel the genre into global recognition. ‘Double Cup’ received a 10/10 score in Mixmag magazine upon its release and was picked out in the publication’s Best Albums of the Decade 2010-2019 rundown. The album’s contributor DJ Spinn said, “Rashad and I knew that this was our opportunity to showcase on a broader level. We wanted to make sure we included all the guys in the recording. It was really like a posse album for the most part.”

Footwork, known also as juke, is derived from elements of ghetto house and hip hop, and combines the rapid rhythms of the former with heavy sampling from the latter, pop and other soundscapes. Early juke songs usually sit at 160 BPM and borrow rhythms and sub-bass frequencies from drum ‘n’ bass. Move forward from the origins of DJ Clent’s 1996 effort ‘Haily Mary’ and RP Boo’s ‘Baby Come On’ released in 1997, with ‘Double Cup’ coming shortly afterwards.

Partisan Records are celebrating the iconic album ‘Double Cup’ reflecting on the changes and it’s profound impact over the past ten years. The upcoming release reminds us of the contributions and how we have been introduced to a new type of listener. The music still sounds as alive today as it did in 2013, with Rashad grabbing the torch of Chicago house from Frankie Knuckles and taking it further to the future. Anyone new to footwork should investigate the Double Cup (10th Anniversary Edition) reissue via Partisan Records on December 8
