MF DOOM’s widow and estate sue former Stones Throw label manager for return of personal notebooks

Former Stones Throw label manager and A&R, Egon Alapatt, is being sued by the estate of rapper MF DOOM and his widow, Jasmine Dumile Thompson, over the purchase of 31 of DOOM’s notebooks. The suit alleges copyright infringement, fraud, intentional misrepresentation, and unjust enrichment. Thompson’s lawsuit claims that the estate, which manages the Gas Drawls brand, holds the rights to the notebooks.

Screenshots of emails between DOOM and Alapatt were shared on DOOM’s Instagram page earlier this year. In the emails, DOOM requests that Alapatt “Give The Notebooks Back.” The lawsuit alleges that Alapatt improperly obtained the notebooks and used them to create merchandise without the estate’s permission.

Alapatt has yet to comment on the lawsuit. DOOM, whose real name is Daniel Dumile, passed away in October 2020 at the age of 49. He was known for his distinctive flow and collaboration with various hip hop artists throughout his career.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal battles over DOOM’s estate. In February, it was reported that the estate was in conflict over the rapper’s legacy and assets. DOOM’s wife and children were reportedly not on speaking terms, and there were concerns about the handling of the estate’s finances
