Hip hop icons Wu-Tang Clan have released a new single, entitled ‘Claudine’, which features verses from Method Man and Ghostface Killah, as well as a vocal contribution from Dutch singer Nicole Bus. Produced by long-time collaborator DJ Mathematics, the track is based on the 1974 Harlem-based film of the same name, which centred on themes of heartbreak and love.
In a statement, DJ Mathematics described the track as “an ode to all mothers, wives and young women, reflecting their struggle, strength, courage and love.” Wu-Tang’s last release was the 2017 album ‘The Saga Continues’, which featured guest vocals from RZA, Raekwon, Redman and others.
Wu-Tang are currently on a world tour with fellow rapper Nas, with dates including London, Melbourne, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin and Glasgow. Nas himself has recently released a surprise album, ‘Magic 2’, which is a sequel to his previous record ‘Magic’.
The release of ‘Claudine’ marks a welcome return for Wu-Tang Clan, who remain one of hip hop’s most enduring and successful acts. The single deftly showcases the group’s lyrical virtuosity and production savvy, and sits as yet another high point in Wu-Tang’s twenty-five year plus career.
