Dubstep institution FWD>> has launched its own record label, with producer Slimzee, his old rave and pirate radio comrade Riko Dan and protege Boylan teaming up on ‘Mile End’ for its first release. The label will embrace FWD>>’s original sounds of two decades ago alongside more experimental tracks. ‘Mile End’ combines dubstep elements with a “grimey” feel and a “psycho thing going on too”. The track is the latest collaboration between Rinse FM co-founder Slimzee and MC Riko Dan, who’ve been performing together since garage, grime and dubstep were one movement.
‘Mile End’ began life at Slimzee’s regular jam sessions at Boylan’s house, with the trio working to create something different. Slimzee said, “this was our first trappy sounding tune, you can hear it in the strings and the sub-bass”. Once the track was finished, Slimzee gave it to Youngsta, who played it as his last tune at FWD>>’s recent Printworks party. Slimzee said, “it’s really nice to see videos of it doing damage in the rave”, with Mala also playing it regularly.
‘Mile End’ is available for purchase on Bandcamp, and can be bought via FWD>>’s website
